Barons Quay - Opening Schedule So Far

Providing over 20 thousand square feet of retail space, more than 900 free time limited parking spaces and a wonderful brand new Odeon cinema overlooking the waterfront, Barons Quay is set to be another jewel in Northwich's crown. Long awaited, the Barons Quay site is nearing completion, and parts of it are already open. So, for your convenience, here is an account of the Barons Quay opening schedule so far.

Already Open

The multi storey car park of the Barons Quay site was opened on August 26th 2016. This multi storey car park is home to around 400 parking spaces and these spaces are already on offer for visitors to Northwich to use. Drivers can currently park their vehicles for free in this car park for up to 4 hours at a time.

What will be next to open?

Next to open will be the supermarket Asda, which will officially open it's doors for the first time on Monday 28th November.

Opening around the same time, however, will be the 5 screen Odeon cinema. So, it looks like, by the end of the year, Northwich residents will be able to park their car for free as they catch a movie and then pick up some shopping from Asda before they head home.

What else can we expect from Barons Quay?

Once the entire site has opened by early 2017, there will be an abundance of bars, restaurants and cafes, a huge M&S store and plenty of different retail outlets. The whole scheme has cost around £80 million and the aim is for it to be a diverse, contemporary and beautiful place to spend time.

All About Cheshire, UK

The county of Cheshire covers an area of approximately 900 square miles in North West England on the Welsh border between Lancashire, to the north, and Staffordshire, to the south. Cheshire is predominantly rural and has been known for centuries as a centre for the production of salt and, of course, Cheshire cheese. The Peak District National covers eastern parts of the county, so it’s no surprise that tourism makes a valuable contribution to the local economy. Other popular tourist attractions in Cheshire include the National Waterways Museum, the Lion Salt Works and Chester Zoo, to name but a few, and it’s fair to say that the county has something for all the family.

Cheshire is famous for picturesque towns and villages, many with traditional black-and-white half-timbered buildings, which can be found dotted throughout the rural landscape. Chester, the county town of Chester, provides first-class opportunities for shopping, entertainment and dining. Northwich, less than 20 miles east of the county town, was historically an important centre for the salt industry but, more recently, has undergone a stabilisation programme to allow the potential of the town centre to be realised.

Northwich is an attractive market town, which enjoys a prestigious location at the confluence of the River Dane and the River Weaver in the middle of the Cheshire Plain and is currently undergoing a redevelopment scheme designed to take full advantage of its riverside setting. Barons Quay, in the heart of Northwich town centre, is the subject of an £80 million development, based on Marks & Spencer, Asda and Odeon, but also including six new restaurants, with waterside views, over 100,000 square feet of retail space and 900 limited period car parking spaces. The idea is to redevelop a 26-acre brownfield site, including the demolition of several existing buildings, and transform Barons Quay into a thriving retail and leisure quarter.

All about Northwich, Cheshire

Northwich: filled with history

Situated in Cheshire West, Northwich has been named one of the best places to live in the UK. Two rivers, the Weaver and the Dane, meet at Northwich, and ever since the Roman times, this town has been famous for its salt pans. The 'wich' part of the name 'Northwich' indicates a place where salt can be found - the same suffix can be found in other towns in the UK (for instance Norwich and Greenwich) which again were famous in ancient times for their salt. Northwich is mentioned in the famous medieval Domesday book (though it is named as part of the Middlewich area), and throughout its rich history it has accrued plenty of wonderful buildings as well as some beautiful green spaces such as the Marbury Country Park. The salt heritage of the area is still in evidence in the various pools and brine baths dotted around the town - the most renowned of these was probably simply known as the 'Brine Baths', though nowadays it is known as Moss Farm Pool.

Transformations in the present day

One of the key ways in which Northwich has transformed in recent years is due to the development of the Barons Quay area. As mentioned above, Northwich was famous for its salt pans and salt mines, and the redevelopment of various mines began a couple of decades ago thanks to a grant from the government. One such redevelopment occurred in Barons Quay, and the planned result is a state of the art shopping centre. Spacious and welcoming, the Barons Quay shopping and dining complex enjoys an amazing waterside location and will also be a very desirable place to live and work. Clothing shops will rub shoulders with supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, meaning that you can do all of your shopping together in one place.

Barons Quay: Yet Another Reason To Visit Northwich

Something big is coming soon to Northwich. Barons Quay is a multi-million pound development project that will put this Cheshire town at the forefront of the regional economy. This huge retail and entertainment centre is being built on the banks of River Weaver, just north of the town centre, and is set to expand the current shopping, leisure, and entertainment options in the area.

Once completed, Barons Quay will feature a variety of high-street stores, restaurants and a 5-screen cinema. As part of the project, several new homes will also be built in the area. Barons Quay will be open to the public by the end of 2016 and will be fully completed in 2017.

Overall, this project will make Northwich a more attractive and convenient place to live in and visit, as approximately 26 acres of brownfield land will be turned into a modern and pleasant urban area. Barons Quay will also revitalise the local economy, creating approximately 1,600 jobs and significantly improving Northwich's overall regional ranking. Thanks to its convenient location within easy reach of Manchester, Chester, and Warrington, Barons Quay will boost the local economy by attracting shoppers and visitors from all over Cheshire and beyond. Moreover, this development will offer residents plenty of choices when it comes to shopping, eating out, and enjoying their free time, and will improve the shortage of parking spaces in the town centre thanks to the creation of more than 900 free car park spaces.

Barons Quay: Everything You Need to Know

The Barons Quay development is an £80 million project to bring a thriving retail and leisure quarter to Northwich which will rival the likes of Liverpool One and the Trafford Centre. Embracing the natural landscape the development is set by the River Weaver. A new open public space, Weaver Point, overlooks the river and provides an outdoor dining area, bars and restaurants and a mooring point for boats. Weaver Way will be landscaped to provide a relaxing riverside route for pedestrians and cyclists and also links to a newly developed green space by the river, Riverside Park, and also links with Carey Park.

The complex will house a state of the art five screen Odeon cinema, which along with the shopping and dining experiences brings highly anticipated leisure activities to the town. 103,000 square feet has been dedicated to high quality retail outlets and include favourites such as Marks & Spencer and an ASDA superstore. The development incorporates strong links to the existing local retail areas so that you are never too far away from exactly what you're looking for. In short: something for everyone!

The development is expected to create over 1,000 jobs which will benefit local people. It also includes over 900 parking spaces which are free for limited periods to cater for visitors and allow them to make the most of their experience.

So whether you're looking for retail therapy, wanting to catch a film with the kids or enjoy a meal in one of the six restaurants which overlook the beautiful scenery of the river, Barons Quay will not disappoint!

Northwich, Chesire - What is there to do?

Northwich in Cheshire boasts a full range of activities from shopping to dining to countryside retreats. First the essentials. When eating or drinking out, there is a variety of establishments on offer from Mediterranean cuisine to wonderful Indian restaurants. This includes the Kanya Cafe Bar and Bistro, which hosts a range of coffee stop, bistro food as well as more sophisticated dining. Be sure to stop by the Witton Chimes also. A classic English pub which serves wholesome food and drinks a plenty including a large stock of real ales, alongside live music which is regularly scheduled.

Now that sustenance is sorted, delving deeper into Northwich can unveil some hidden gems. For those explorers, the Delamere Forest is a perfect outdoor activity hub for all ages, whether you want to walk the woodland on a nature trail, or take to the canopy at the Delamere Forest Go Ape centre. Perhaps take one of the many boat tours available at ABC Boat Hire, or if you're particularly inclined, marvel at the fabulous engineering at the Anderton Boat Lift.

Other outdoor attractions include the Stockley Farms Bird of Prey Centre or the Vale Royal Falconry Centre, where you can get up close and personal with some fantastic beasts. For a more relaxed jaunt in the countryside, take a visit to the Arley Hall and Gardens, a quiet retreat where you can appreciate the beautiful grounds as well as enjoying an exquisite quality lunch.

Learn something new. Why not head over to the Lion Salt Works where you can witness the beautiful array of tributes to the salt mining industry of the past. And you can always swat up on your history knowledge at the Weaver Hall Museum, a small exhibit dedicated to the history of the area.

But of course, this shall all be made easier with the introduction of the new Barons Quay shopping centre, providing a massive array of shopping opportunities, with ample parking and other services as an essential central hub for your visit.

In development since 2014, the new Barons Quay shopping centre, which is due for completion in winter 2016 aims to bring over 1,400 jobs to Northwich while also making the most of its beautiful riverside location. The new shopping centre, which has allocated 28,000 square feet to restaurant and bar space will consist of six riverside restaurants where you can while away the hours, sip on a glass of cool, crisp wine, or dine al fresco (weather permitting!) all the while enjoying stunning riverside views. A much needed boost for the local economy, Barons Quay will also bring a much needed evening footfall to the area courtesy of the afore-mentioned bars and restaurants as well as a five-screen Odeon cinema showing all the latest movies - something which is sure to be a hit with the locals!

Barons Quay - Cheshire's exciting new shopping centre!

Scheduled to be completed in autumn 2016, Barons Quay is going to be the premier shopping centre in Cheshire. It will be a retail and leisure centre in the heart of Northwich, easily accessible from Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham. It will enrich Northwich and be a place where people can shop, eat, drink and enjoy themselves.

The centre will take advantage of its riverside placement and will have 6 restaurants overlooking the river with beautiful views. The main retail chains flanking the centre will be ASDA, M&S and a large, 5 screen Odeon cinema. The car park will have 900 free spaces for limited stays and the centre will of course house all amenities. It will also be fully accessible to wheelchair users and disabled patrons.

The owners are currently leasing out spaces within the centre with lots of opportunity for leisure and retail. While much of it has been bought up already, there are still a few spaces left.

£80 million has been spent on the development of the centre, which is hoped to improve tourism to Northwich town as well. The town itself is famed for its Victorian era buildings, with authentic timber frames. It also sites between the River Dane and River Weaver, which has given it a history of being a major part of the old salt industry. These are both parts of the reason the town has been on the Sunday Times ‘list of 101 Best Places to Live in Britain' twice. Northwich is one of only two north-west towns to have the honour. Other reasons are the town's low crime rate, great schools and low property prices.

Barons Quay - Northwich Shopping about to get better

You couldn't really blame town planners if they struggled to come up with ways to improve the pretty Cheshire market town of Northwich, but Barons Quay aims to do just that. Due to open later in 2016, this imaginative leisure and retail development will turn Northwich town centre into an even more desirable destination for shopping, relaxation and enjoyment.

Summer will see shops and restaurants linked to existing outlets, making full use of the riverside setting. By autumn they will be joined by new branches of Marks and Spencer and Asda, with a further 100,000 feet of retail space, a five-screen cinema and more eateries and bars. Some restaurants will have the added attraction of riverside views, which will doubtless prove especially popular. A further attraction for travellers is the offer of free car parking for a limited period.

Northwich's history is steeped in a flourishing salt industry, and today its Victorian timber-framed buildings stand where the rivers Dane and Weaver meet. Its inclusion in two recent Sunday Times lists of the best places to live in the UK gives an indication of its charms, and it serves not only the local community and its surroundings, but also nearby towns such as Nantwich, Knutsford and Altrincham.

Barons Quay is conveniently located in the heart of Northwich, which is easily accessed by public transport or car, being only 23 miles to the south-west of Manchester, for example. The town sits in the middle of the green county of Cheshire, which is surrounded by Staffordshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and Wales, making it a convenient stopping-off point or break for those travelling through.
The additional facilities of Barons Quays can only enhance the already-thriving community of Northwich, and could even help to return it to the prominence that it enjoyed at the height of salt production.

Places to shop in Cheshire, UK

Every county in Britain will have some real treasures for any keen shopper, and Cheshire is no exception.

Warrington, the largest city in Cheshire, is a good place to start our overview. The Golden Square shopping centre will cover most of the bases, offering its visitors a wide and comprehensive selection of prime retail outlets: whether you want to pick up some gorgeous new clothes or simply grab a bite to eat, Golden Square will be the perfect place. If you still have energy after your visit, you will find plenty of great shops dotted around the town.

But just because Warrington is the largest town does not mean it should have all of the glory...

If you are visiting Cheshire for a shopping experience, then Northwich will be a must-see destination. Northwich has its origins as a market town, so we should not be surprised that it has no shortage of great places to shop. Make no mistake, your primary retail destination here will have to be the Barons Quay shopping centre - an expansive complex that combines both retail and leisure outlets, along with an attractive waterfront environment.

Another worthwhile place to visit would be the county town of Chester. As well as being rich in local history, the city will not disappoint the discerning shopper. Throughout the city we find a wide number of unique shops with their own individual philosophies: Ancient World sells items for history buffs, Old Guys Rule specialises in grandfatherly gifts, and Castle Galleries is the perfect place if you want to pick up some art. Of course, we also find a more traditional retail complex in the form of the Grosvenor Shopping Centre.

We hope that this brief overview has opened your eyes to the many wonderful shopping experience to be had in Cheshire.

A New Shopping Centre for Northwich

Retail therapy is a well-known way of giving yourself a little lift, but it certainly doesn't hurt if the place where you are spending your money looks attractive as well. The new Barons Quay shopping centre, due to open in Northwich, Cheshire, later this year, looks just the job; not only will it have many of your favourite shops, but it's located right by the River Weaver. The new centre's restaurants and cafes will have great views across the river and Barons Quay will also be connected to the existing town's facilities.

Of course there are other shopping centres in Cheshire -- the Grosvenor centres in Chester and Macclesfield, the Forum centre in Chester, Winford Cross in Winsford to name just a few, and there are many closer to Manchester. But Northwich itself lacks a central hub with the sorts of facilities that Barons Quay will offer, including a five-screen Odeon, a large Asda and a flagship Marks and Spencer shop.

While Northwich is a beautiful market town, it has struggled in the past to meet demand for some of the larger chains of shops. The new centre will allow development of such stores without a complete change to the character of the town centre. There will also be plenty of parking for those who visit the new centre, so that they're not overloading the town's existing facilities. While it's a laudable plan to have more people using public transport to access this sort of facility, the catchment area for Northwich shoppers is largely a rural one, and it's foolish to ignore the fact that people will be wanting to use their cars in such a situation.

Really looking forward to this!
